CVV Results Code: Contains a Visa-defined code indicating Card Verification Value (CVV) verification results.

Code

Definition

Blank or not present

CVV was not verified.

1

CVV failed verification.

2

CVV passed verification.

Card Authentication Results Code: This field is a Visa-defined, Issuer-supplied Visa Smart Debit/Visa Smart Credit (VSDC) code indicating card authentication results.

Code

Definition

Blank or not present

1

The ARQC was checked, but failed verification.

2

The ARQC was checked and passed verification.

CVV2/CVC2/CID Results Code: This field contains card verification results. CVV2 (Visa), CVC2 (MC), CID (AMEX, Diner’s, and Discover) are card verification tools for reducing fraud losses primarily for card not present transactions. CVV2/CVC2/CID participation is optional. Participating merchants must manually enter the verification values. All participating issuers, acquirers, and merchants must be prepared to send and receive the information.

Card Authentication Verification Value (CAVV) Result Code: This field contains the 3-D Secure Cardholder Authentication Verification Value (CAVV) results code. A CAVV is a cryptographic value generated during the 3-D Secure authentication process by the issuer's Access Control Server (ACS) to verify the cardholder. The Endpoint must forward the CAVV to Visa or the issuer must perform the same cryptographic calculation using the issuer's key and related fields to validate the CAVV. The result of the validation process is stored in the CAVV results code.

CAVV not present

0

CAVV authentication results invalid

1

CAVV failed validation – authentication

2

CAVV passed validation – authentication

3

CAVV passed validation—attempt

A 3-D Secure Service authentication value of 7 from the issuer’s ACS indicates that authentication was attempted. Determined that the issuer ACS generated this value from the use of the issuer’s CAVV keys

4

CAVV failed validation—attempt

A 3-D Secure Service authentication value of 7 from the issuer’s ACS indicates authentication was attempted. Determined that the issuer’s ACS generated this value from the use of the issuer’s CAVV keys

5

Not used (reserved for future use)

6

CAVV not validated, issuer not participating in CAVV validation (for Visa use only).

7

CAVV failed validation—attempt (U.S. issued cards only)

A 3-D Secure Service authentication value of 7 from Visa’s ACS indicates that an authentication attempt was performed. Determined that Visa generated this value from the use of Visa CAVV keys.

8

CAVV passed validation—attempt (U.S. issued cards only)

A 3-D Secure Service authentication value of 7 from Visa’s ACS indicates that an authentication attempt was performed.Determined that Visa generated this value from the use of Visa CAVV keys.

9

CAVV failed validation—attempt (U.S. issued cards only)

A 3-D Secure Service authentication value of 8 from Visa’s ACS indicates that an authentication attempt was performed when the issuer’s ACS was not available. Determined that Visa generated this value from the use of Visa CAVV keys.

A

CAVV passed validation—attempt (U.S. issued cards only).

A 3-D Secure Service authentication value of 8 from Visa’s ACS indicates that an authentication attempt was performed when the issuer’s ACS was not available. Determined that Visa generated this value from the use of Visa CAVV keys.

B

CAVV passed validation—information only, no liability shift.

When the ECI does not equal 5 or 6 and a CAVV is present, the CAVV will be validated, but no liability shift will occur. Visa will generate this value for card or transaction types that are not eligible for the 3-D Secure Service.

C

CAVV was not validated—attempt (for Visa use only).

If the issuer did not return a CAVV results code in the authorization response, V.I.P. will set the value to C.

D

CAVV was not validated—authentication (for Visa use only).

If the issuer did not return a CAVV results code in the authorization response, V.I.P. will set the value to C.
