The Card Brand category contains fee items that are defined by the major card brands, i.e. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, and assessed to acquirers. Examples of these could include MasterCard NABU, Visa TIF and Discover Data Usage. The Card Brand category has a Category Type of 13.
Fields in this fee category allow the client to pass an acquirer fee from the card brand directly to the merchant. TSYS calculates these fees using the latest rates published by the card brands. The client also may apply pass-through plus pricing, which will pass an additional percentage over and above the calculated fee to the merchant.
Example: A Visa acquirer fee may be set up on a merchant profile as a Card Brand fee with a pass through card brand rate. The merchant will be charged according to the latest published rates; for example he may be charged $0.0195 per Visa transaction. If Visa updates this rate in the future, the new rate will automatically be applied to the merchant from that point forward. TSYS will notify clients when the card brand rates are updated.
Clients may also utilize the Card Brand fee types to build additional fees for the merchant, if needed. The defined fee types simply represent the type of activity (transactions) that will be accumulated for fee calculation purposes.
Example: A separate fee item can be defined using MC NABU for counting MC transactions and assessing an additional per item fee to the merchant (in addition to the normal MC NABU fee).
