RB 416/A16/B16/G16/H16 - Cashback amount not numeric or greater than transaction amount or received for a non-purchase transaction

Cashback is a 12-digit field that is right-justified in the terminal and zero-filled. The range for this field is 000000000001-000009999999. The terminal does not indicate the decimal position of this field.

This error occurs in AMEX application when a tip is greater than the transaction amount or is greater than the amount received for a non-purchased transaction. Cashback amount must be numeric The system validates the data element type and length of this field.

Possible Cause

Solution

Cashback amount is not numeric or greater than transaction amount or received for a non-purchase transaction.

  1. Delete (void) the transaction that caused the RB.
  2. Offline the corrected transaction and re-transmit.

If the Delete (void) feature is not available, delete the batch, offline the corrected transactions, and re-transmit. Also, verify the software allows AMEX capture.

Wrong (non-restaurant) MCC

Merchants in this case must be referred to their bank/term provider to get their MCC updated.
