MISC Fixed Fee Rules

Miscellaneous Fixed is somewhat of a catch-all category where clients may enter fees not covered in the other categories, and that fit their particular business needs and offerings. Some typical examples of Miscellaneous Fixed Fees include terminals, equipment, compliance and statement fees. The MISC Fixed category has a Category Type of 9.

Because of the different nature of these fee items, some of the fields available in other categories are not available here, and a few extra fields are available in the Miscellaneous Fixed category only. For example, Count can be used to denote the number of similar items being rented or purchased, so they may be included all in one fee item, rather than each in a separate, identical fee item. Likewise, because these can be physical items being sold or rented, a Sales Tax Indicator is provided for clients subscribing to the Sales Tax Solution service. When set, the system will determine the appropriate tax rate and calculate the sales tax accordingly, for equipment and supplies.

An Expense Per Item rate field is also available in the Miscellaneous Fixed category, to allow the client to place expense items directly onto a profile without associating an ERG with a corresponding item, or attaching an ERG at all.

Note: To add a one-time fee item, the client may create a Miscellaneous Fixed fee with a start date and stop date within a calendar month. The stop date for the fee item must fall on or after the last business day of the month. Miscellaneous Fixed fees are calculated only at month-end. A fee item with a start date of 5/1 and a stop date of 5/31 will be calculated on 5/31. Likewise, a fee item with a start date of 5/15 and a stop date of 6/10 will be calculated on 5/31. However, a fee item with a start date of 5/1 and a stop date of 5/15 will be considered an expired fee item during month-end processing, and will not be calculated nor applied.

Example: A non-compliance fee may be set up as a MISC Fixed fee item. The merchant may be charged $7 a month or $15 a month on an ongoing basis.

Example: An order for supplies – paper or envelopes - or purchasing a new terminal - may be set up as a MISC Fixed fee item. Sales tax may also apply in this case.
