RB 020

Rejected Batches - RB 020

Cause

Solution

The terminal needs to be authenticated.

When a batch is presented to Sierra, and the authentication code is missing or does not match what is in MMS/Sierra, Sierra rejects the batch with the batch code of “ 020” Hierarchy Verification Failure.

Authenticate the terminal.

When a transaction is presented to Sierra and the SSL flag in MMS is not in sync with how the transaction was submitted, Sierra rejects the authorization with the response of Failure HV - Hierarchy Verification Failure.

Note: Only certain BINs utilize the SSL flag. The Failure-HV error is only caused by an incorrect SSL flag setting if the BIN is set up to use this option.

This could be because the BIN is configured to use the SSL flag and the SSL flag setting is incorrect. To verify and rectify this error, follow the steps below.

  1. Confirm BIN utilization of the SSL flag by verifying authorization visibility in e-Connections. If the transaction shows with blank transaction data and a zero dollar amount, this indicates the BIN is configured to use the SSL flag and the SSL flag setting is incorrect.

  2. Verify the SSL flag is set to 'Y' in MMS. If it is set to 'N', refer the merchant to their Merchant Services Provider (MSP) to request the update. Paperwork is required for this update.

A DialPay batch is being submitted using hierarchy that requires authentication.

When a batch is presented to Sierra, and the authentication code is missing, Sierra rejects the batch with the batch code of “ 020” Hierarchy Verification Failure.

  1. Set the Attachment Code to IT in the terminal file.
  2. Offline the DialPay transactions into the terminal.
  3. Advise the merchant that DialPay can only be used to authorize transactions with their current setup.

Advise the merchant a separate file is required for authorization and capture using DialPay (DialPay as a backup).

If the merchant requires authorization and capture using DialPay, refer them to their terminal provider.

When a batch is presented to Sierra, and one of the hierarchy data elements is missing or is inaccurate in MMS/Sierra, Sierra rejects the batch with the batch code of “ 020” Hierarchy Verification Failure, which displays as:

RB00334P0001020ZH@@@@42420010010.

Hierarchy Data Elements being verified:

  • BIN
  • Merchant Number
  • Store Number
  • Terminal Number

Refer the merchant to their terminal provider.
