RB H16

RB 416/A16/B16/G16/H16 - Cashback Amount Not Numeric or Greater Than Transaction Amount or Received for a Non-purchase Transaction

Cashback is a 12-digit field that is right-justified, zero filled and the range is between 000000000001-000009999999. The terminal does not indicate the decimal position of this field.

This field is a secondary field required in Amex restaurant application used for tip amount. This error occurs in Amex application when tip is greater than Transaction Amount or greater than amount received for non-purchased transaction. Cashback amount must be in numeric format. Sierra validates the data element type and length of this field.

Possible Cause

Solution

Cashback amount is not numeric or greater than transaction amount or received for a non-purchase transaction.

  1. Delete/void the transaction that invoked an RB.
  2. Offline the corrected transaction and re-transmit.

Note: If the delete/void feature is not available, delete the batch, offline corrected transactions, and re-transmit.

Wrong (non-restaurant) MCC.

Merchants in this case would need to be referred to their bank/term provider to get their MCC updated.
